For Developers

Cloudant is plenty powerful.
We're on a mission to make it easy.

Get started with these walk-throughs, all of which feature live demos of the Cloudant API.

Reading and Writing

Use our RESTful API to create, read, update and delete documents inside your hosted Cloudant database.

Primary Index

The primary index (at the _all_docs URI) is the fastest way to scan the data inside your database.

Secondary Indexes

Ideal for routine queries, secondary indexes use MapReduce to build indexes over large amounts of data.

Built on Lucene, Search 2.0 is for ad hoc queries you can't do with primary & secondary indexes.

Example applications

Coming out of the lab A set of example apps we're tinkering with that demonstrate various pieces of the Cloudant feature set. Feel free to hit view source or replicate them into your own account (be warned, some of the applications use large databases).
